Overview

How we build for water owners

Drinking water projects leave no room for a long outage. A plant expansion has to tie into live process trains, a transmission main has to be shut down and returned to service inside a demand window, and every material that touches potable water has to carry NSF/ANSI 61 certification. We plan for those constraints from the first pre-construction meeting, with shutdown plans, disinfection and pressure-testing sequences written before submittals are returned.

Our crews have installed more than 140 miles of pressure pipe from 12 to 96 inches in ductile iron (DIP), steel, PCCP and HDPE, built prestressed circular and rectangular concrete reservoirs to 12 million gallons, and constructed filtration, membrane and disinfection facilities with capacities up to 60 MGD. Pipe is installed to AWWA standards with bell restraint, cathodic protection and bedding verified by our own surveyors.

We work as CM/GC and progressive design-build contractor on complex plant work as well as on traditional design-bid-build contracts. Early contractor involvement has repeatedly saved owners schedule and money on process tie-ins, temporary bypass systems and equipment procurement.

Owner priorities

What matters on these projects

  1. 01

    Keeping customers in service

Shutdown windows, temporary bypass pumping and phased tie-ins are written into the baseline schedule and rehearsed with operations staff before any live system is touched.

  2. 02

    Water quality and public health

NSF/ANSI 61 materials, AWWA C651 disinfection, bacteriological clearance and pressure-test records are documented to the standard a state health department expects at turnover.

  3. 03

    Funding and compliance

SRF, DWSRF and WIFIA-funded projects bring American Iron and Steel, Davis-Bacon and DBE reporting requirements. We build those into cost control from the first pay application.

  4. 04

    Commissioning and lifecycle cost

Equipment is installed, tested and commissioned with the owner's operators and the manufacturer's representatives, so the plant is handed over operating and the operations staff are trained.
