Treatment, conveyance and resource recovery

Wastewater

*We expand and upgrade wastewater treatment plants while they keep running, and we build the pump stations and force mains that move flow to them. Permit compliance does not pause for construction.

Overview

How we build for wastewater owners

A wastewater plant cannot be turned off. New aeration basins, clarifiers, digesters and headworks have to be built within feet of operating process trains, and every tie-in has to be coordinated with plant staff who are answerable to an NPDES permit. We plan these tie-ins as discrete, rehearsed events, with bypass pumping, temporary power and contingency plans in place before the work starts.

Our concrete crews have placed more than 180,000 cubic yards of liquid-retaining structures, with water-tightness testing and crack-control detailing that meets ACI 350 requirements. We install process piping, mechanical equipment and the electrical and instrumentation systems that tie into plant SCADA, working with the owner's controls integrator through factory acceptance testing, functional testing and commissioning.

Odor control, noise and truck traffic matter to the neighbors of every plant we work in. Our community relations plans, early-morning haul restrictions and odor-management measures have kept complaints at a minimum on projects that ran for three years or more.

Owner priorities

What matters on these projects

  1. 01

    Permit compliance during construction

Tie-ins, shutdowns and bypass operations are scheduled around permit-sensitive periods, with effluent quality protected by temporary process controls and daily coordination with plant operators.

  2. 02

    Capacity for growth

We help owners phase work so new capacity comes online when flows demand it, avoiding premature debt service and stranded assets.

  3. 03

    Controls and commissioning

SCADA integration, loop checks, functional testing and operator training are scheduled as deliverables rather than afterthoughts, with a commissioning lead assigned before notice to proceed.

  4. 04

    Safe work around hazardous atmospheres

Confined-space entry, H2S monitoring, lockout/tagout and hot-work permitting are managed under a written program audited monthly by our Director of Safety.
