Earthwork & Site Development

Overview

What we deliver

Every project starts with earthwork. We own a fleet of excavators, dozers, scrapers, articulated trucks and compactors, outfitted with GPS machine control, and we move more than 2 million cubic yards of material each year. Our estimators know which sites are going to be wet, which will be rock and which will require special handling of contaminated or unsuitable soils.

Grading and ground improvement

We perform mass grading for treatment plant sites and highway corridors, construct embankments and levees to engineered specifications, and install stone columns, wick drains, preloads and surcharges where soils require improvement. Compaction is verified by our QC technicians using nuclear density gauges and, where specified, intelligent compaction and proof rolling.

Erosion control and stormwater

Working in the Pacific Northwest means working in the rain. We implement erosion and sediment control plans with temporary and permanent BMPs, manage dewatering and turbidity compliance and keep a certified erosion and sediment control lead (CESCL) on every site. Stormwater ponds, bioswales, outfalls and permanent water-quality facilities are built as part of the site package.

We also handle site utilities, retaining walls, rock excavation, demolition and clearing. For the owner, one contractor means one point of accountability from the first clearing pass to final stabilization.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

01 How do you control stormwater on wet sites?
We install erosion and sediment controls before clearing begins, inspect them after every storm and maintain temporary treatment capacity on larger sites. A certified lead is responsible for compliance and reporting.
02 Do you use GPS machine control?
Yes. Our dozers, graders and excavators all run GPS machine control, which speeds production, reduces rework and gives the owner reliable cut-and-fill quantities by drone survey.
03 Can you handle poor soils?
We have experience with soft alluvial soils, peat and organic deposits. Preloading, wick drains and stone columns have all been used to meet settlement criteria, with instrumentation to confirm performance.
04 Do you take earthwork-only contracts?
Yes, though most of our site development work is part of larger plant, roadway or levee projects. We bid earthwork packages for owners and primes when the schedule and scope fit.
