Our NCCER-accredited training program welcomes its largest class, with a third of the apprentices coming from partner high school programs.
Halvorsen Pike welcomed 22 new apprentices this spring, the largest class in the company's history. The apprentices will rotate through carpentry, ironwork, operating engineer and pipefitting assignments over three to four years, combining paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction through our NCCER-accredited program.
Eight of the apprentices came from partnerships with career and technical education programs in Clark County, Deschutes County and Ada County. The company provides job-shadow days, summer internships and a guaranteed interview for every graduate of its partner programs.
"We are not going to build the next 40 years of infrastructure with the workforce we have today," said Ray Tolliver, who began his career as a laborer. "A good apprenticeship program is the best investment a contractor can make."
Each apprentice is paired with a journey-level mentor, and graduates of the program have gone on to become foremen, superintendents and project managers. Applications for next year's class open in January on our careers page.
